The reality is if you compare equal rounds, say the 6.8mm 120gr SST and the 6.5mm 123gr SST out of factory ammo in a 12.5' barrel the SPC has a marginal advantage inside 150 yards. These are all in my "358 Herrett" as mentioned above, but you can expect very similar results in a Grendel based version. Not sure why the 6.8 SPC keeps being touted as the superior short barrel round. I'll probably aim for ~1600-1800 fps although it could be pushed much faster. It is a relatively flat cartridge, optimized by using 6.5mm bullets. Since its first launch in 2004, this round has proved its versatility and superiority. I'm about to start working up some (relatively) mild loads for my 10.5" SBR with the 140gr FTX bullet that's designed for the 357 mag. Created by Bill Alexander and his cohorts, 6.5 Grendel is an intermediate cartridge with low recoil and high accuracy.

The Hornady 180gr SS/PB is a good choice in these wildcats, as is the 200 FTX and any of the other standard 35 Remington bullets. It could be pushed higher, that was a very brief development out of curiosity. I haven't done a whole lot of development yet with pistol bullets in mine, but did work up a 9mm 125gr FMJ to 2800 fps from my 16" barrel. For the sake of argument, lets say 1,100 fps is the speed of sound, and any bullet flying slower than that is considered subsonic. Yeah, you can push pistol bullets pretty fast.
